medwireNews: The COVID-19 Global Rheumatology Alliance, an international registry for reporting cases of COVID-19 in patients with rheumatic diseases, has launched.

“We are asking that clinicians use this site to report any and all cases of COVID-19 in rheumatology patients, including those with mild or no symptoms,” says the alliance, chaired by Philip Robinson (Royal Brisbane Hospital, Queensland, Australia).

The registry is supported by over 100 organizations, including societies such as the American College of Rheumatology and EULAR, journals, and charities, and aims to “provide an open platform for data collection, sharing, and dissemination which is transparent, inclusive, and non-competitive.” The website provides guidance on data sharing, and on institutional review board and patient consent requirements for entering data into the registry.

“It is our hope that the information collected will help guide rheumatology clinicians in assessing and treating patients with rheumatologic disease and in evaluating the risk of infection in patients on immunosuppression,” say Robinson and colleagues.
