Abstract
The accident, which left me a C5-6 quadriplegic, occurred June 8, 1973. Stopped at a red light, I was hit from behind by a moving car. Because I was seven months pregnant I did not have the seat belt fastened. The car seat came loose, my head hit the top of the car, and the sudden anterior neck flexion caused collapse and total fragmentation of the centrum of C-5. Complete motor paralysis and incomplete sensory interruption was the result.
