Abstract

Adolescence is a time of tremendous change, characterized by conflicting high and low periods as the individual seeks to find his own unique identity, establish his autonomy, and determine his place in the world. The adolescent is no longer a child and not yet an adult. The feelings generated by this unique position in the life cycle create conflicts between the dependency needs of his childhood past and the natural striving for the independence of his adult future.
