Medicine Matters rheumatology

C is the correct answer. The patient does not have a formal contraindication to becoming pregnant. Although SLE is associated with an increased risk for adverse pregnancy outcomes, she has been in sustained remission for a long time and therefore the impact of her disease on pregnancy outcome is not expected to be significant. Her high-risk antibody profile – anti-Ro/SSA antibodies and triple positivity for aPL – does not represent a contraindication for pregnancy by itself, but multidisciplinary management should be performed in order to minimize the risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes by means of prophylactic treatment and tight control during pregnancy.
