Our content strategies are directed by independent external experts who guide our editorial teams as outlined below.

News

Our medwireNews bureau team bring authoritative, relevant and independent medical news to physicians and clinicians, keeping them informed of advances in their specialist areas with the goal of ultimately helping to improve patient care.

Our Editorial Board has oversight on the focus and format of our news coverage. They provide suggestions of appropriate experts we might approach for interviews or comments, guidance on key sessions at international meetings, and contribute comment on important news stories.

Types of services offered include:

  • News services: Review the top medical journals and summarize the latest research findings, thoughts and opinion in the fast-moving world of rheumatology research and clinical trials.
  • Review articles: Work with experts to review specific topics of interest or areas of research to bring context and expert comment, raise awareness, and inform practice.
  • Conference coverage and reporting: Reporting key data from international conferences, highlighting major themes and showcasing the reflections and opinions of attending delegates and speakers through video interviews, podcasts and written pieces.

Content commissioned especially for the website

Our Editorial Board provide regular guidance on content types to include on the digital platform and recommendations of potential authors. Once a commissioned piece is submitted, this is sent to our clinical advisors for peer review. The final version is approved by the author and then the article is uploaded onto our platform.

Types of commissioned articles include:

  • Key opinions: We commission, edit and publish key opinion articles that are written by prominent members of the rheumatology community who provide their opinions on the latest clinical trials in rheumatology and rheumatic related diseases. We also produce key opinions based around trials presented at conferences, which are produced as rapid-turnaround articles. Our Editorial Board also regularly supply opinion pieces for the site.
  • Editorials: We produce Editorials covering everything from the impact of clinical trial results, new guidelines, drug developments and novel therapies, to the practical management of the disease and patient care. Our editorial team commission leading experts to share their views on the issues they feel are important to current and future clinical practice. Editorials offer commentary on areas of interest or controversy, drawing on the history or progression in a given area, and discussing the potential clinical implications in a wide context. Our Editorial Board also regularly supply editorials for the site.
  • Slide sets: We compile slide collections which cover recently completed and ongoing clinical trials in rheumatology. The trials have been selected by the Editorial Board as potentially having a significant impact on the long-term practice of rheumatic medicine. Each overview presents a structured summary of the trial, including purpose, design, patient cohort and end points, a full overview of the results including tables and graphs of data, plus a summary of the main conclusions. Additional slide sets are available covering mode of actions, guideline synopses and other interesting developments.

Our editorial team work hard to keep a track of all relevant content published both by Springer Nature and other publishers. All journal and book content comes from high quality, reliable sources, including peer-reviewed medical journals and trusted medical textbooks. Our Editorial Board review this content to ensure we are providing the most relevant practical and clinical materials for the broad range of healthcare professionals working in rheumatology. Our Editorial Board highlight any ‘must-have’ major publications and we seek to reproduce this content either in abstract or full text form wherever agreements are in place with the responsible publisher. Where agreements are not in place, our news team review this content within their news service.

Sponsored content

In some areas of our digital platform, sponsors may fund the development of specific items of content which support the delivery of high value education to healthcare professionals. We recognize the importance of maintaining a clear separation between our independent editorial content and any materials that have been funded, and any sponsored content has a clear statement explaining its origin and any relevant disclosures. High editorial standards are applied consistently across all published contributions and the board may recommend rejecting sponsored content which does not support the editorial policy.
All authors are asked to complete a conflict of interest form that states disclosure of any financial interests and affiliations which may influence, or have the appearance of influencing, the specific content they provide. Any disclosures and affiliations are clearly visible on the content pieces.
Our site and newsletters may carry advertising. Again this content is clearly identified as being supplied or influenced by a paying partner.
